my plan for this blog is to post at least one blog per day... unfortunately today was an extremely busy day...
well i cant something as trivial as being busy get in the way of my plans. so without further ado here is my late night entry for today:
most of the time when it comes to successfully dealing with any antique or collectable the key is research, research, research. however lately i have decided that glass is an area in the industry that none of us have delved into, let me start by stating that there are few areas in the collectable business that is so difficult to get information about this wee i decided that the usual glass items from my boxes i would do proper research on instead of just selling them blindly on the weekly R1 auction... so i spent my monday doing just that RESEARCH.
i found 2 interesting pieces of glass (that actually had markings) amongst the gorgeous rose cut crystal items, the first item had what appeared to be an anchor inside a square (this turned out to be a valuable piece of depression glass) the other item looked like a kitch piece of 70s glass and had a similar marking, but in doing the research i later found that it was not by the same company.
i started by going into 1 of our numerous reference books and looked under anchor... luckily for me the first item (the depression glass) was made by a company called anchor hocking as it turns out this particular item was valued at approximately £80. this same reference book had a section on makers marks so i decided to search the other mark what i found was something quite amazing... this item was made by a company called peill & putzler... but more on that tomorrow.
